Pear tree description
|
||||||||
From South Dakota State University, 'Gourmet' produces medium-sized fruit in mid- to late September that are juicy and sweet with a firm, crisp texture somewhat reminiscent of an Asian pear. 'Gourmet' is pollen-sterile, so it cannot be used to pollinate a second pear tree. The gourmet pear should not be allowed to mature on the tree, but instead should ripen in a storage area. It has green, medium-sized, deciduous leaves. Its flowers have a fragrant smell and bloom in white and pink. It is somewhat resistant to fire blight. Zone 4-8. A South Dakota introduction, trees are hardy and grow upright to 15-20 ft. tall. Fruit is green-yellow in color and medium in size with thick but tender skin. Flesh is yellowish, sweet, crisp and juicy making it an excellent dessert pear. Fruit matures the 3rd week of September in Brookings S.D. Trees are pollen-sterile and can not be used to pollinate other trees. Available in Semi-dwarf |

All pear trees will be available
for delivery as bare rootstock unless otherwise noted. |

Shipping begins mid-April once the frost is out of the ground. All plants are shipped bare root from our family nursery in Midwestern Wisconsin. Please understand that commiting to a shipment date before this time frame just is not possible, however, if mother nature is kind and the ground thaws early then the trees will ship early. Every effort is made to ensure the plants you receive are healthy and ready to plant. However, it is impossible to guarantee planting results. Weather, soil conditions, insects and proper planting all play a part in successful growth. We are not responsible for the plants health if you choose to order a plant that will simply not grow or survive in your area based on the pictured zone map. Please order responsibly.
